SASSA increase the SRD Grant starting from April 2024

SASSA, which stands for South African Social Security Agency, recently released the payment plan for the beginning of 2024. This announcement has stirred excitement among people as they expect a raise in the R350 Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant. Managed by the Department of Social Development, this grant has been vital for many eligible South Africans, refugees, and asylum seekers since starting in May 2020. As February SASSA payments roll out, there’s news of a ZAR 64 raise in the SRD grant from April.

SASSA increase the SRD Grant starting from April 2024

As we get closer to the February payment, there’s a lot of excitement about the possibility of getting more money in the SRD grant in April. SASSA is thinking about giving SRD grant receivers more money. They might raise the grant from R350 to R413, which is a big increase of R63. This could make people who get the grant hopeful for more help.

This announcement brings happiness to almost 8.5 million people all over the country. They include South Africans, refugees, and asylum seekers who rely on the SASSA monthly social relief grant for support.

Deputy President Paul Mashatile shared this announcement on the official X @GovernmentZA social media platform. Deputy President Paul Mashatile acknowledged that the current R350 grant in South Africa isn’t enough to match rising prices. He announced plans to review the grant this year.

Our records show that the SASSA has prolonged the R350 grant until 2025. Based on this, we anticipate that the SRD R350 grant will rise to R413, in line with current inflation trends, as stated by Deputy President Paul Mashatile.

The big question is: Will this change help fight rising prices in the country? At least, it should help people who are most at risk. As the SRD is set to rise soon, people are starting to look into other available grants. Is SASSA planning to boost social grants in 2024?
